Jubilee Year Celebration July 14, 2019 - July 19, 2020

“… (We want to) live this jubilee year as a year of grace that renews us in the charism, mission and spirituality that we have received in the church. We only want to humbly serve the Lord in his Church and the men to whom we have been sent with renewed ardor… ”

A Movement at the Service of the Church

The Juan XXIII Parish Retreat Movement was founded in 1970 in the Diocese of Arecibo, Puerto Rico. It is an international association of lay faithful, established in accordance with the canons of Canon Law of the Catholic Church and inspired by the principles that emanated from the Second Vatican Council convened by the Supreme Pontiff John XXIII.

Its main mission is to work for those who are far from the Church, the marginalized of the Society and for the parish community that it serves; motivating and encouraging her to carry out her apostolic work. The Movement, commonly called Juan XXIII, has its own mystique; a spirituality of service, framed in Love, Surrender and Sacrifice, expressed in a humble option of life: "With Christ All, Without Christ Nothing."

Its members, retiristas who have lived the deep experience of the love of God from an intimate and personal encounter with the living Christ; They want to fulfill their baptismal commitment with total dedication, in a spirit of communion and participation with the Church. They feel that we are all Church, they live their reality and recognize their needs, so they participate with joy in everything that is entrusted to them by their pastors, in harmony with diocesan initiatives.

JUBILAR YEAR

July 14, 2019 - July 19, 2020

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Juan XXIII Movement, Pope Francis has granted the celebration of a holy year.

WHAT IS A JUBILAR YEAR OR HOLY YEAR?

It is a year of grace that aims at interior renewal. It is the year of reconciliation, conversion and sacramental penance. Celebrate the jubilee

> A deep examination of conscience

> Sincere repentance along with a firm purpose of conversion

> Walk towards the love of the Father

The Holy Father has also granted the grace that during this jubilee year all those who participate in John XXIII retreats can obtain plenary indulgence, whether serving in them, praying or supporting with sacrifices. They will also receive indulgences, those sick people who cannot attend the retreats but unite in celebration and prayer.

What is the Plenary Indulgence?

When we sin, repent, and confess, God forgives sins, but the debt or responsibility to pay (in this life or the next in Purgatory) for the consequences of those sins persists. The Plenary Indulgence offers the opportunity to totally eliminate the debts accumulated in life up to that moment. To win the plenary indulgence , you must keep yourself in a state of grace (even rejecting venial sin), make a deep confession, take communion and pray for the Pope's intentions..
