The Angels of God

The word "angel" actually comes from the Greek word aggelos, meaning "messenger.".

Angels are mentioned at least 108 times in the Old Testament and 165 times in the New Testament. Therefore, there is ample information available in the Scriptures that will allow us to build a foundation of our knowledge of angelic beings. Several times the Bible describes them as messengers: Job 1:14; Luke 7:24; 9:52; Isaiah 42:19; Malachi 3: 1; Malachi 2: 7; Exodus 14:19; and 2 Samuel 24: 16-17. In addition, the Bible describes the entire range that God has created, including both good and evil angels, and special categories such as cherubs, seraphim, and the archangel.

The Bible talks about classes of angels such as the cherubim (Ezekiel 1) and seraphim (Isaiah 6). We also know the names of three notable angels: Michael (Daniel 10:13, Jude 9), Gabriel (Daniel 9:21, Luke 1: 19,26) and Raphael (Tobias 5: 4).

The Nine Choirs of Heavenly Angels:

They represent the superiority of wisdom over the intellect that governs the natural world and the elements.

8. Archangels - These are the angels who lead the armies of angels as holy messengers of God. There are three (3) archangels recognized by the Catholic Faith: Miguel, Gabriel and Rafael. Commanders of the armies of God serving as guardian angels of the leaders of movements of the Kingdom of God on Earth.

9. Guardians - The angels who are appointed by God at the moment of conception for the protection of every human being. These are the ones that are closest to our world and to the human being. They serve as messengers bringing our prayers to God and revealing God's answer. The Guardian Angels have the ability to contact all other angels at any time, since their purpose is to protect us during our lives. They assist us whenever we ask.
